Parking For Profit

screenshot fabulousPinch and a punch for the first of the month – no returns!

As I do at the end of each month, I always have a look at my parking revenue for the previous 30 days. For those not in the know, “parking revenue” means the income generated from having monetised links on domain name landing pages.

I monetise 99.9% of my domain names – and for the past seven years, I have used the services of Fabulous.com. Whilst I’m never going to be able to retire on the parking revenue, it does generate regular monthly income. Plus, the Fabulous platform ticks the boxes for me in two other very important areas:

  • auDA Domain Monetisation Policy – if you’re a domain investor, you have to play by the rules.
  • Built In Sales Platform – I choose to have a “for sale” banner on my domains, and not a day goes past without an enquiry or “three”. As Frank Schilling once said, “selling your domain names is simply the best form of domain monetisation”!

A Parking Example

One of my consistently regular earners is petfriendlyrentals.com.au. On this one, I chose to do a simple 2-click lander and put my own keywords in. (My son Luke gets the most popular terms from Google). I think this has a lot to do with generating this amount of regular revenue (see screenshot further down). As you can see, I have 9 specific links – plus two “for sale” banners (calls to action).

So with one day to go to complete the monthly revenue cycle, I will come close to earning $USD60 (about AUD80) from this one domain.

Conclusion

Earlier this week, I sold dogfriendlyaccommodation.com.au – I had an ordinary banner up on this one (not 2-click), and I never generated anywhere near the same income. Obviously, there could be other factors involved – but I’m sold on making the extra effort with my landers.

If you’re a fellow domain investor that already uses Fabulous, you should definitely look at 2-click landers. If you’re not sure how to do them properly, Cam and Katherine at Fabulous / Drop are always happy to help. As am I.

If you’re a brand new customer, they will also set you up with a free Fabulous account. No qualification necessary (you don’t need a huge portfolio of domains in other words). Have a look at this interview I did with Cameron Bell from Fabulous / Drop.

P.S. As always, I’m not receiving any payment or earning any affiliate income from my endorsement. I just like Fabulous so much that I’m happy to recommend them.

Thanks for the plug Ned and a good overview of what the platform can do.

It’s such a simple thing to set up your domains for both monetization and potential sales it boggles the mind when I see so many blank domains out there that could attract auDA complaints.

I also highly recommend that those parking use two click landers as you have done.  99% of the time the earnings per click will be higher than 1 click landers.

    Great tips!

I’ve just changed 5 of my domains to test this out.

I’ve been guilty of just adding  domains with Fabulous and not tweaking.

    Have you tested with colours?

@Mike – my son Luke does all the parking, so I will ask him. I suspect he just takes the easy route though!

I remember reading that you needed a huge portfolio and earnings to be able to join fabulous.

@Peter – as I said in my article:

    Great article.

It proves there is good money investing in domain names if you even just monetise them correctly.

$60 return in 1 month on a $18.95 ( 2 year cost) investment.  Not many returns in real estate or the share market like that if any.

This is exactly why a lot of China investors ( millions) have moved from the stock market and real estate over to domain names.
