Reflections On A Sunday – 20 December 2015

Just sharing some thoughts with you again on a lovely Sunday morning in Far North Queensland. Would love to hear what you’ve been up to – or your opinion on any domain related topics.

Reflection 1

Many people I speak to in the domaining world think that it is nigh on impossible for overseas parties to purchase Aussie domains.

Or it is just too much hassle – and thus not worth the effort.

That is simply not the case.

There is a rich vein of business awaiting if you understand how you can legally (and easily) facilitate such transactions. I’ll do a separate article about this in the new year.

you can do it

Reflection 2

It’s a terrible thing when an “absolute confidence” you’ve shared with someone you trust gets betrayed.

The flow-on consequences can be devastating – and affect many parties. It can impact on friendships and business relationships.

Sometimes it can be innocently done by a slip of the tongue – and on other occasions it is done willfully. Either which way, the end result is the same. (Though one hurts much more than the other).

I’m sure we all have confidants – people who we share stuff with. In business and in life, trust is such an important commodity.

Even for an old bloke like me, I’ve learned some harsh lessons this week. A couple of relationships have changed forever. Very sad …

I was sitting in a café yesterday morning doing the Sudoku in the paper, and I happened to glance at the saying of the day. How apt this was.

Best wishes to you and yours for the festive season. 🙂

@Ned – I’ve done three sales to overseas this year using trademark system. Had to do it manually with registrar. It works.

I completed a larger overseas sale for a .com.au domain a few weeks ago. I’ve also noticed an increase in enquiries from overseas buyers in general.

It can sometimes take a bit more communication to finalise an overseas sale, but it’s not that tricky once you’ve done it a couple of times and have established processes in place. For example, I have different invoice templates for local and international buyers (with and without GST, different payment instructions etc).

I didn’t use an escrow service, as they were happy to do international bank transfer (electronic funds transfer).
