Daily Snippets – 7 March

Sorry to have not posted for a number of days. Had a nasty health issue on Friday. :(

Here are some snippets that I hope you find interesting.

Why has auDA gone all silent?

Having been a member of the 2015 Names Policy Panel, I’ve been eagerly waiting some notification as to what the auDA Board thinks of the final report that was submitted to them.

They were presented with this report at their December 2014 meeting, and as I understand it, they deferred further discussion until the February meeting.

In the past, Names Panel reports have been published on the auDA website. Given it is now March, I don’t understand why this hasn’t happened? Nor do I understand why Board Minutes from December have not been disclosed as yet? This is from their website:

I sent auDA the following on 29 February:

“Two queries please.

1.    Names Panel Report – when is this being published on auDA website? Also, any outcomes at this stage?

2.    Minutes of Dec 14 meeting? Normally they are published a month after meeting.”

The response I got was this:

“Sorry, the Board has not authorised staff to release the Panel’s report or to provide any information about outcomes.”

When I followed up re the December Board Minutes, I was told:

“Same story.”

Come on auDA – where is your transparency? This “secret squirrel” business wouldn’t be tolerated in any other similar organisation.

What’s Happening On The Drops

Thursday was a “quietish” day. In total, there were 12 contested domains on Netfleet – they won 10 / lost 2.  Top names on Netfleet were orthodontistperth.com.au for $300 +/+ ; matesratesrealestate.com.au for $250 +/+; and royalflush.com.au for $220 +/+. CairnsNursingAgency.com.au was won by Drop for $201 +/+ (the losing bid on NF was $200 +/+).

Friday was a slightly busier day. There were 16 contested domains on Netfleet – they won 11 / lost 5 (including 2 of the top 3). Domain Shield had a good day.

Saturday was a shocker.  Only 7 contested domains – and NF won them all. Top price was just $32 +/+!

Sunday was almost as bad with just 8 contested domains. NF won 7 of them. Top price was $108 +/+ for sherbrooke.com.au – followed by $102 +/+ for azx.com.au.

Motivational Quote Of The Day

Best wishes for your online success. 🙂

I hope you’re on the mend Ned.

It would be terrific to see the Names Panel Report …I was wondering why it’s taking so long.

      Thanks Don.

Doesn’t matter whether the “news” is good, bad or indifferent – I just believe that every member (and stakeholder) should be kept up to date with what’s happening.

Hope you’re feeling better now Neddy.

A lot of people are waiting to hear that the domain space is going to remain the same, and not ruined with direct registrations.

I will be checking here and over at the auDA website every week now for the news. I wonder why it’s taking so long?

    here’s the problem

“.au Domain Administration Ltd (auDA) is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space.”

    ………… self-regulatory
